It’s exciting to consider buying a home with a pool or spa, but it’s also a very costly feature to home if neither are working well.
There are many factors to consider when making a purchase like this, and at Redbud Inspections, we want to ensure you are making a sound investment based on the function of these water elements.
It’s not enough to walk around a pool or spa and see they appear to be in good condition.
What We Look For:
We will need to investigate things that keep the pool clean and healthy like the –
- Electrical components
These are some of the more expensive items to pay for later.
- We should be able to tell you the status of those units and “roughly” how long we can assume they will (or won’t) last.
- We will likely do some pressure checks as well which should reveal leaks in the system.
After we learn about these mechanical features, we will inspect the materials used and the state they are in. This might be safety equipment like pool covers or fences around the pool or spa.
We will also look for cracks in the pool itself or on the deck surfaces. Evaluations of the handrails or foot ladders will be included and deemed to be in good working order (or not) and free from damage.
We want to make sure your pool or space is a safe place for you and your family.
- The best way to do this is by looking at drains, covers and other safety elements.
- These items should be federally in compliance or in alignment with state ordinances.
What We Do Not Test:
We will not be draining the pool or looking under it to ensure it is supported enough. We also cannot check on underground electrical or plumbing systems.
Other items we do not test for is water content or chemical testing. We suggest you use a water specialist for this. You might want to ask the current homeowners about things like, has the pool been permitted or what was the maintenance schedule like and when did it happen.
The cost of having this sort of inspection will vary depending on the type of pool and how big an area we will have to inspect.
Redbud typically charges $115 for the service. We urge you to give Redbud Inspections a call to learn more about our pool and spa inspections.
